Overview

TotalBoat Gleam is a classic marine spar varnish designed to protect and beautify wood surfaces exposed to outdoor and coastal conditions. This premium formula blends tung oil and phenolic resins with UV blockers to deliver a transparent amber hue on interior and exterior wood, from boats and decks to outdoor furniture and bar tops.

As a true spar varnish, Gleam remains flexible as the wood expands and contracts with seasonal temperature changes. The finish resists chipping, cracking, and peeling, helping maintain a durable barrier against the elements without fading. The improved formulation flows smoothly, reduces brush marks, and supports faster overcoating and cure times, making it easier to achieve a professional-looking result.

Each coat provides a medium build with excellent flow-out, self-leveling to a smooth, durable surface that enhances the natural beauty of the wood. Gleam imparts a warm amber glow in either a Gloss or Satin (low-sheen) finish, letting grain and color come alive while offering practical protection for high-traffic outdoor pieces.

Finish options and application approach

• For a high-gloss look, apply 4–6 coats of Gleam Gloss.
• For a sleek satin finish, build with Gleam Gloss and finish with Gleam Satin for the final 1–2 coats.
• Recoat time is friendly: recoat in 1 hour at 72°F, and you can apply up to 3 coats in a single day.
• Thinning is available to suit your method: 5–10% with TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100 for brushing/rolling, or 10–20% with TotalBoat Spray Thinner 101 for spraying.

Gleam is available in Gloss or Satin (low-sheen) and comes in pint, quart, and gallon sizes, covering approximately 360–400 sq ft per gallon. It’s designed for easy application by brush, roller, or spray and offers fast, reliable overcoating times to help you reach great results quickly.
